Notable Books for a Global Society (NBGS)
Selected by the Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group of the International Reading Association. These include “25 outstanding trade books for enhancing student understanding of people and cultures throughout the world.” The books must be published in the United States during the proceeding year and the intended audience is students in grades K-12. This list includes books from the United States that increase cultural awareness as well as international books. Began in 1995.

USBBY Bibliographies
Since 1998, the USBBY (United States Board on Books for Young People) has published the Bridges to Understanding series of annotated bibliographies of international books published in the United States. Each volume also includes introductory essays, lists of publishers, IBBY chapters around the world, and much more helpful information for those wanting to bring the world to their community.
